Our next state spotlight takes us to Michigan thanks to listener Daniel. Since it was a lovely spring day in Western Pennsylvania we decided to move the studio outside. This was a bad idea because there was a gremlin in the machine that ruined the audio. We were able to salvage the show with some fancy audio filtering but now it sounds like we were in a large sewer tube instead of outside in the open air. Oh, The beers, FAN-TAS-TIC!

Dark Horse's little brewpub
Dark Horse's little brewpub is amazing. The place looks like a garage sale threw up in the place. It is very eclectic. There are hundreds of hand-thrown steins that the regulars drink from. Some are custom air-brushed with flames and skulls. I really like stopping in there.
New Holland is the 2nd biggest brewery in MI behind Bell's. There is another killer brewery in MI. It is called Dragon's Mead. Kuhnhenn and Jolly Pumpkin are fabulous.

Wow Show?
In how many shows did you get that many wow beers? Even the non-wow beers are, apparently, fantastic.
Those Michiganders sure know how to brew beer!
And if you count Bell's and Jeff Renner (the well-known homebrewer), not to mention all the good beers available in MI from neighboring states, it sounds like a trip to Michigan is in order...
At least, you should get Ron Jeffries on the show. A very personable guy with a wonderful attitude about beer. He'd make for an excellent discussion.
BTW, there's a few typos in the shownotes. It's slightly funny because Bière de mars is misspelled twice... ;-)

Definitely sounded like a
Definitely sounded like a wow show. I wish that more MI beers came out here. There's only one place I know of that sells them, and it's only two kinds of Jolly Pumpkin (not to mention $14 a bottle). I would ask my family that lives there, but they already think I'm a drunk for being interested in craft brewing and homebrewing. I hate stereotypes.
On the note of quality - I don't know if it was just me/the copy of the show that I downloaded, but in spite of the filtering you did Jeff, the audio glitched out 3 (I think 3) times during playing to the point of being entirely inaudible. This was mostly prevelant during the pre/post shows. I tried it in a few different media players and on two different computers, so I don't think it was me, but you never know. Anyone else have this problem?
I really enjoyed the parts of the show I could hear anyway :-/

Yeah, there were a few times
Yeah, there were a few times when the sound got totally reverb'd out. But on the whole it was quite fine. There was something nice about the outdoor thing. It created a nice ambiance. The wind came across pretty much as simple static, but it was okay.

I am glad you guys enjoyed
I am glad you guys enjoyed the beers I sent. The audio on the main show was far superior to what I was expecting based on the email you sent me.
As for the beer.
Leelanau (lee-lan-awe) is currently working on getting their brewhouse open. Until then JP will continue to contract brew for them. When the brewhouse is ready they will take the barrels their beer has been in so they can keep the same character.
Biere de Mars is a seasonal released and is an exceptional beer. The bottle you guys got was the grande reserve. It is more complex in every way. Only 5 cases were bottled and they are all gone. Fortunatly I still have one in my cellar.
I totally agree about ES Bam. It was interesting but I am glad I only bought 2 bottles.
As for the Raspberry Eisbock, I find that it is far too sweet to pair with any food. It is a dessert all by itself.
Next time I find myself with a collection of unique and interesting beers I'll be sure to send some more.
Dan
P.S. I am not trying to start pronunciation gate again with the Leelanau thing. A lot of places in Michigan use the old native american names and I know the can be tough.
Great show
I have never been up to Michigan but if I do make it up there sometime, I will definitely look for some of these beers. Hopefully Jolly Pumpkin will start distributing to Texas sometime.
I have only been listening for a little over a month, but I really like what I hear. The audio wasn't perfect, but it was definitely not as bad as I expected after reading the disclaimer on the website.
Michigan beers
Great feed, I love Michigan beers as well, we now get Dark Horse beers in IL, yeah! As well, I've posted a blog comment on my trip to Ann Arbor/Dexter, love Jolly Pumpkin, I have 2 bottles of the Bier de Mars Grand Reserve from my trip, can't wait to try one.

p.s. as for the BdMGR, they only made 12 cases, and I bought 2 bottles at the brewery for $7.99 each, wish I bought a few more.
Thanks for the MI show
Great show, I love MI beer and it was nice to hear you two enjoying some of my favorite breweries. A tour of MI breweries would make a fantastic beer trip. If you decide to come here a trip to Shorts or The Livery is a must. They are a little out of the way but it is worth the trip. The hard part is tearing oneself away from Jolly Pumpkin and Dark Horse.
