As a brit-o-file, is that a word? from Cincinnati, I've got to say that the BBC has by far the best shows in the world:
from the comedy of the original Office (which I like better than our Michael) and the IT Crowd which is just HI-Larry-Russ. But Spooks, just finished the whole 56 episodes, and Live on Mars, and Ashes to Ashes are just flat better than anything we have. I encourage putting on the eye-patch and saying AAARRRRRggghhhh!!! for any of these shows on Bittorrent.
Oh and since I've had a flight of Jolly Pumpking, Allagash, that Italian brewer of Belgian beers all saison lineup, can never remember the name, Goose Islands odd trippel (pere frank?), and dreadnaught from 3 floyds, makes me 2.99 sheets to the wind, plus maybe another half or so. Spooks E608 plus are fan freaking tastic. seasons 1-2 are great, 4 is good- 5 is better, 6 is like 24, but much better, and 7, oh I wish I could say, but they've only filmed the first have and it doesn't air till the end of the year, and its even better. But Male lead dies, again, and I've gotten attached to Adam Carter. In a non man crush sort of way.
Torchwood loses at life
I also like BBC America BUT have you seen Torchwood? worst...show...ever.
One time on Robin Hood show they had chick ninjas fighting in spandex outfits. pretty bad stuff too.
Noooo!
You're watching it wrong. Torchwood is great! Well, as long as you're not homophobic...
Torchwood - hmmmm
Welcome back Greig! Hope your trip round Europe was great.
Torchwood is OK and I do watch every episode, but it does seem like the sex & swearing is just crowbarred in there to make a niche telly programme that's different to Dr Who. It gets repeated a few days later in the early evening on the Beeb without the swear words & sex and the story just flows better.

Full on
Hi Dave,
It was great to put a face to the name. Europe was great, with the highlight probably being that walk I texted you about! ;) For everyone else, my wife and I were staying in Brugge in Belgium, and caught the train to Poperinge - hop growing town, and general tiny place. From there, no cycles or buses being available, we walked 7.5km out to the St Sixtus Abbey, near Westvleteren, and at the In De Vrede ("At Peace") cafe over the road from the abbey, we indulged in all three Westy beers on draught. Maybe it was the long walk, but I felt they certainly lived up to the hype. I don't buy "best beer in the world" - it's a ridiculous statement - but fresh on draught, they were certainly incredible beers. Of course, after that, the walk back was not nearly so painful! :)
Other beery highlights were Munich (oh man... the beer... Ayinger Dunkel and Schneider Eisbock were standouts, and Augustiner Helles was very nice at the Fruhlingsfest), Harveys beer in Lewes (well, most of England to be fair, but I had to pick something), and touring Rodenbach at Roeselare, and Cantillon in Brussels.
As for Torchwood... I've just caught up, and there was one scene that was almost too much for even an old libertarian like me. If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean! ;)
Anglophile is the word I'd
Anglophile is the word I'd use but the BBC would have little PC kittens if it thought that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland weren't included. Maybe Britophile IS the word since the whole UK pay the TV license fee that funds the BBC.
I agree though. The BBC not only does great telly but it raises the bar for all other telly in the UK.
