Wow, audio is so much better this week. Not only can I actually hear, you guys sound better than ever. Whatever you changed for recording, don't change it. You both sound a hell of a lot clearer than usual even. I hardly recognized Greg's voice; I thought you had a secret guest on for a minute.
I don't know what Jeff did to the levels - all I can think of is that my mic is now in slot 3 instead of slot 2, and it might be modulated differently - but I did sound a bit lighter and less bassy. I don't know if that's a good thing or not - at least JD seems to think it's better!
I suppose that input three had different equalization on it than input two. It was an accident, but maybe something we should revisit, we haven't tweaked the EQ since like episode 20.
The interesting thing is that there IS craft baccy. GL Pease is an example compared to Dutch Masters or Walgreens tobacco. (I am a pipesmoker btw).
Also, there IS craft ketchup as well. I think it was Slate who did a blind tasting of organic/craft catsup and found Heinz was superior.
Now for the taxes, the concern about brewery size affecting a large craft brewer might be unfounded. BBC didn't even crack to the top 10 for number of beers sold in the US last year (if I remember correctly) and the top 10 craft brews combined in sales wouldn't have made it in the top 10.
Good show, i could hear it and make smart ass comments.
Greg, during the show you were under the impression that Horny Devil was a witbier. I know it was probably because you heard/read "coriander" which it is brewed with but I'm pretty sure this is not a witbier, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't even have wheat malt in it at all. I think it's basically your standard Belgian Strong Pale Ale with a slight twist of coriander.
The official description from Alesmith's website, though that might be the same one on the back of the bottle:
"This is the AleSmith incarnation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Horny Devil is an authentic Belgian Style ale, from the Belgian candi sugar right down to the yeast, a Belgian strain from a Trappist monastery in Belgium. In addition to the malts, candi sugar and fresh hops, there is also a little added twist from coriander seeds, which impart a refreshing citrus flavor to an outstanding ale. Belgian ale lovers around the world have raved about Horny Devil, and you will too."
It's not a huge deal, I just wanted to point that out to you for your own records. Unless you disagree, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts/info.
The brewery and where it comes from is pronounced "Key-When-awe". Don't mean to be a Nazi about how you guys pronounce things, just letting you guys know. Love your show and keep up the awesome podcast that keeps me entertained and interested in craft beer.
The audio quality was awesome this week. The drinking of the Saison inspired/reminded me to go out and purchase some Hennepin (my personal favorite saison) to drink this weekend. Great job.
