Penguins Vs. Flyers Beer Wager

Friday my beloved Pittsburgh Penguins and our rivals from across state, the Philadelphia Flyers play the first game of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals. Bryan who runs the website www.brewlounge.com is from Philadelphia and has Challenged CBR to a friendly intercity wager. A wager which benifits the CBR and Brew Lounge Listeners/Readers.

We put the word out for brewers, owners, reps, and writers to chip in to a pot of goodies to be raffled off to CBR listeners or TBL readers. The pledges have already begun to stream in. If you're beerfolk and got my e-mail but haven't replied yet, get on it! If you don't know what I'm talking about, perhaps I don't have your e-mail address. Either way, drop a note to me at jeff@craftbeerradio.com.

The first game is this coming Friday the 9th in Pittsburgh. Later this week, Jeff and I will announce what has been pledged by the beer folks in Philly and da Burgh. After the series is over, the winning website will conduct a raffle/drawing/or whatever better approach we come up with to determine which reader/listener will walk away with the bounty.

GO PENS!!

Still in it to win it!

Overall, without analyzing too greatly, a fine game. The first period was well played by both teams, while the Pens played well enough and better than the Flyers in periods 2 and 3 to win Game 1. So congrats. Enjoy while it lasts, because while Philly may lose the first game, it's not a position we are unaccustomed to this year. Esp. considering the outcome of the first two series. 35 hours to go 'til Game 2!

3-0 woot woot

Gary Roberts will get a hattrick from the bench as the pens sweep the series. (Crosby will get 6 assists, 2 each on Gary's hat trick)

Well....

Barring an historic comeback*, I'm preparing to turn over the beer stash from the Philly area to Jeff. Noticed Bob mentioned it in a posting at the Post Gazette today. Maybe Bob can join us if we have a meetup when this series concludes.

* The 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs and 1975 New York Islanders are the only NHL clubs to overcome a deficit of three games to none in a playoff series. Those teams did it 33 years apart. And this year is 33 years from 1975.
