Belgian style ales, made in America. Did we mention they're Belgian? And made in America? Good.

You could cut the preshow sexual tension with a cheese knife
You're both wrong, and right. Oh, I'm so torn. I don't know who to choose. On one hand the Philly beer week was a lot to cram down the CBR main line, on the other hand it was primo beer content. I think I like Greg's idea of putting some content or maybe teaser content on the main feed but I know I'm against a separate feed for the content. I go to great lengths to make and pursue good beer, but I put forth the effort to add a temporary feed to my aggregator. You are CBR, you get two feeds, Main show (or good beer content) and Extras. A GABF type feed for every event is silly. Maybe, and this is a strech, you could add a permanent "CBR:Events" feed and throw all things SAVOR, philly beer week, etc. on there. Please, stop feed proliferation.
"Please stop feed
"Please stop feed proliferation."
Think of the children!!!
On a more serious note...am I the only one that can't see the pre-show? It just links me to the BA site of the beer.

Sorry about that, put the wrong link in. You can always, though, access our pre and post shows by clicking on the CBR Extras Feed...

Nice turnaround Greg,
Nice turnaround Greg, thanks. I'm not smart enough to use the feeds, but I'll keep that in mind for the future.
P.S. Fat Tire is not a Belgian Pale Ale. Hades Ale is a "Belgian Strong Pale" aka a Belgian Blonde Ale as per BJCP guidelines. I thought it was a Golden Strong, but the ABV is too low, even though they utilize the naming conventions of Belgian Golden Strongs. Brother Thelonius is amazing, especially aged.

Sorry
I would have put my comment on the preshow feed but I too was flummoxed by the beer link, and not astute enough to look over there <---
Feel free to move it if it detracts from the main show comment board aesthetic.
Let's keep it here
It can't be that important where the discussion is running.
I don't use the feed, so it's not that important to me anyway. But I like the idea of a CBR:Event feed. And it would be easy enough to say at the beginning of the following regular show: Don't forget out coverage of PBW.
It would have the added advantage that the menu wouldn't begin with "2007" which may turn off some first time visitors before they even get started on the website...
I like that idea
An event feed sounds like a good idea. But, I don't use the feed either though so I don't really care.
Hades
Hi Guys,
Enjoyed the show! Happened to have the Great Divide Hades ale last night as a matter of fact. I'd suggest that the closest comparison I found would be Duvel from Duvel Moortgat. For my money, Duvel is one of the most 'pilsner malt and hop dominant' Belgians out there. Seems to me, this is where the folks at Great Divide were clearly going with this beer too. I won't go so far as to say this beer is a clone of Duvel, but it's the closest I've found.
Keep up the good work and cheers!
Shawn
Jack Daniels is not bourbon
Sorry but, as a Kentuckian, I would cringe every time I heard Jeff use "bourbon" and "Jack Daniels" interchangeably.
Otherwise, great show.
Bourbon
OK, I'm a bourbon heathen. I love single malt scotch, and there are a few Irish whiskeys which I enjoy, but I've never got bourbon - I don't even consider it whiskey.
So, being ignorant, can you tell me why JD isn't bourbon? Or is that in the same sense that BudMillerCoors isn't beer?
Per thewhiskeyguide.com,
Per thewhiskeyguide.com, bourbon "must be made in the US, contain at least 51 percent corn and that it must be stored for at least two years in new, charred oak barrels....(and) the raw spirit may not be distilled to more than 80 percent alcohol by volume." Though it doesn't have to be made in Kentucky, the vast majority of it is.
Jack Daniels is a Tennessee whiskey, which "is closely related to Bourbon but there are a few differences; Tennessee whiskey must be produced in the state of Tennessee and is always filtered through sugar-maple charcoal. The filtering process usually takes 10 days to complete. Tennessee whiskey was recognised as a separate style by US government officials in 1941."
So, the differences are subtle but most whiskey-drinking Kentuckians and Tennesseeans will be quick to point out that they are not the same. Also, each will probably think their own state's tastes better.
Breaking up is hard to do.
First of all - don't break up. Seek counseling or something.
Secondly, I vote no new feed, even though I agree with Greg and not all the Philly Beer Week was something I wanted to listen too.
The reason for no new feed is I download all this stuff automagically into my iPod and listen to you guys when I mow the lawn, home brew or cook dinner for the family.
I am 45 years old and I am not a 20 - something kid who juggles playlists and stuff all the time. I want to open my iPod hours after syncing the iPod and mow the lawn and hear you guys talking and if it is not good, it still does not suck. I subscribed once and I don't want to have to keep checking back over and over again. I do not even get to this web page as much as I would like to.
BTW I Am glad you are revisiting styles and I ask you to revisit them more often. Your best shows - to me at least - are the one where you have a half dozen similar styles and discuss the tastes. For example, if you do a Scottish ale show, please make sure you find new ones and do them again. It's good to dip back into the industry again and keep a finger on the pulse of what's out there and how it is changing or not.
Cheers - Watti
